Amazon Associates statement

Lap & Lake is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

As an Amazon Associate, Janet Media Group earns from qualifying purchases.

How the links work

1. 1.You click a buy button or product link on one of our pages.
2. 2.That link passes through our own redirect at `/go`, which adds our affiliate tracking identifier and sends you to the retailer.
3. 3.If you buy something during that visit, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale.
4. 4.You pay exactly the same price as you would have paid arriving at the retailer any other way. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket.

Every earning link on this site is marked `rel="sponsored nofollow"` and opens in a new tab, and every page carrying one shows a disclosure above the fold, before the first link. Links to authorities such as the CDC and the US Coast Guard are ordinary citations with no commercial relationship at all.

What we do not do

• •We do not let commission decide a pick. Where a cheaper product is better for the buyer we recommend the cheaper product, even where it pays us less.
• •We do not take paid placement. No brand can buy a mention or a position.
• •We do not run sponsored content. Nothing here is written on behalf of a brand.
• •We do not accept free products, because we do not test products.
• •We do not recommend something you do not need to generate a click. Where the honest answer is that a product is unnecessary, we say so — see do kids need water shoes.

About prices on this site

This site does not display product prices, and that is deliberate. We have no live price feed, and a price copied down by hand goes stale within days — so rather than print a number we cannot stand behind, every buy button reads "Check price on Amazon" and takes you to the retailer's own page, where the price is whatever it is today.

Prices, availability and specifications are set by the retailer and change without notice. If a live price feed is added to this site in future, prices will appear alongside the date they were last checked, and any price older than 48 hours will disappear rather than mislead you.

Which retailers we link to

Currently, Amazon only. We link elsewhere when there is a good reason for a buyer — a brand-direct store with better stock, price or warranty — and at the moment no such relationship applies to this category. If that changes, the retailer will be named on the page.

We do not link to a retailer simply because it pays more. Where we would earn nothing from a link but the link is useful to you, we still include it.

Cookies from affiliate links

Clicking an affiliate link typically sets a cookie in your browser from the retailer, which is how they attribute a later purchase to us. That cookie is set by the retailer and governed by the retailer's own privacy policy, not ours. Details of what this site itself collects are in our privacy policy.

Why we tell you all this

Because the FTC requires clear disclosure of a material connection between a publisher and the products it recommends, and because it is the right thing to do. It is also, frankly, a competitive advantage: we found sites in this category running affiliate links with no disclosure at all and no author byline, and we would rather be the opposite of that.
