Who writes this site

Every article, review, comparison and guide on Lap & Lake is written and selected by Janet H., the owner and editor of Janet Media Group, which publishes this site. There is no anonymous "staff" byline here and no rotating cast of freelancers: one person picks every product that appears, and that person is contactable at janet.hoyo@yahoo.com.

That is a deliberately modest claim, and it is the whole of it. Janet H. is not a swim coach, a swim instructor, a lifeguard, a pediatrician, a water-safety instructor or a competitive swimmer, and this site will never suggest otherwise. What she brings is editorial accountability: a named human who chose every pick and whose email address is on the page.

What this site covers, and who it is for

Lap & Lake covers the gear a family needs for a lake season: swimsuits, goggles, swim caps, rash guards, water shoes, floats and towables, Coast Guard approved life jackets, and baby and toddler water gear. There are currently 9 categories, 72 guides and roundups, and 79 researched products on the site.

It is written for one particular reader: a parent outfitting several people at once who refuses to overpay for gear that will be outgrown. That is why every product page has a section on how much to spend and a section on whether the thing survives a second summer, and why we will tell you when the cheap option is the right one.

We built it this way because nobody else does. Swim publishers stop at goggles. Boating sites cover only towables. Pool sites cover only floats. Nobody writes for the parent buying the whole kit for three children who will be a size bigger next June.

What we do not claim

We have not physically tested the products on this site, and we never say we have. No "in our testing", no "we put these through", no invented durations of use, no photographs of gear we do not own. Our picks come from published specifications, aggregated public buyer feedback, and verifying that each product is currently sold.

We also have no customer reviews, no awards and no stated tenure, so you will not find testimonials on this site. A clean page beats a fabricated one. The full method, including the sentence above stated plainly, is at how we pick.

How it is funded

Lap & Lake is reader-supported through affiliate commissions, principally the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you buy through a link here we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commission never decides a pick — where a cheaper option is better for the buyer, we say so, and we link to it. The site has no live price feed, so it never displays a price it cannot verify. Every buy link goes to the retailer's own page where the current price is whatever it is today.
